CrosStor Software Inc is to license its file management technology to 3Com Corp, the two announced yesterday. 3Com will use CrosStor’s Embedded File System within its NBX 100 Communications System voice over IP product line, which 3Com acquired from NBX Corp earlier this year. The NBX 100 is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses looking to integrate voce and data traffic over their Ethernet LANs and WANs.
CrosStor – previously known as Programmed Logic Corp – has recently expanded its horizons to include a storage operating system for network attached storage systems. Auspex Inc, UniTree Software Inc and Maxtor Corp are its OEM customers. But CrosStor’s deal with 3Com is for its long-established Posix- compatible HTFS fast file system. As Programmed Logic, the company broke away from AT&T Co’s Bell Labs in 1990 to work on high-performance Unix file system software. The addition of the software to the NBX products will add a modular file system framework and a journaling architecture for rapid system recovery.
