Marlborough, Massachusetts-based CrossComm Corp has introduced ILAN jr, a cut-down version of its innovative Universal Router, which routes traffic by building up a database of network ddresses. The use of the proprietary, high-speed database to store destination addresses of packets on the fly means that the box can, in effect, route the unroutable protocols. These include SNA/SDLC and NetBIOS traffic. The target markets are small remote branch offices, especially those currently using IBM Corp source routing bridges. It is available immediately and price depends on configuration. ILAN jr, local, two Token Ring local area network connections is $6,000; ILAN jr, remote, one Token Ring local area network and and one serial wide area network connection, is $6,500; and ILAN jr, Token Ring to Ethernet is $7,900. As with its big brother, the router will be badged in the UK by Tricom Plc. UK pricing has yet to be announced.
