Sierra Semiconductor Corp of San Jose has signed a cross-licensing agreement with Weitek Corp, Sunnyvale, California for joint development of single-chip personal computer graphics products: under the agreement, the companies will cooperate on integrating Sierra’s Phase Lock Loop and HiColor-24 technology for displaying 16.8m colours on screen with Weitek’s user interface controller technology; financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but Sierra says its HiColor technology is the de facto industry standard in 15- and 16-bit colour palettes, and has now been extended to support 24-bit colour in conjunction with all popular VGA and Super VGA video controllers; Weitek processors and controllers are used to build faster, more intuitive and competitive workstations and high-performance personal computers and peripherals.
