CROSFIELD ELECTRONICS LAUNCHES GALAN AND THE GALAXY 9000

De La Rue Plc subsidiary Crosfield Electronics Ltd, producers of computerised systems for graphics, design and news publishing, yesterday launched two new products, Galan – a fibre-optic, token passing local area network, which can transfer data at a rate of 100M-bits-per-second with 80% efficiency, making it the fastest high performance local net in the world – and the Galaxy 9000, a new family of workstations ranging in price from UKP19,400 to UKP32,000; built around the Motorola 68020 processor with bit-slice graphics co-processor, it has a memory mapped display that allows real time pen and zoom and scrolling of pages over the entire main memory; evaluation units are set for May, full production begins at the end of the year.
