We hope that readers have had enough of apocalyptic reports saying that the UK electronics industry is managed in a manner that would shame a banana republic and would soon be overtaken by that of Upper Volta not to want to dwell too long on the latest in a long line, from McKinsey & Co: needless to say, Plessey Co Plc and STC Plc were quick to leap in and explain why criticisms didn’t seem to apply to them, and – although from yesterday’s papers, which attributed no comment to GEC Plc, Lord Weinstock was saying exactly the same thing too – in particular pointing out that more than half the overseas sales of the GEC are manufactured overseas – he simply reserved his comments for BBC Radio Four’s The Financial World Tonight programme.
