Critical Path Inc, the San Francisco-based e-mail hosting company, has acquired one more company and agreed to acquire another. The acquired company is the Fabrik Connect outsourced email division of San Francisco-based Fabrik Communications Inc. Critical Path has acquired both the ongoing business operations and around 500 customer relationships of Fabrik Connect, Fabrik’s outsourced gateway service for corporate e-mail networks. Specific terms of the sale were not disclosed.
Critical Path has also agreed to acquire Amplitude Software Corp, which will bring with it a suite of value-added applications and around 250 customer relationship. Amplitude, also based in San Francisco, provides Lycos Inc with the calendaring and resource scheduling applications it uses for its MyTime.com web site. Its other customers include Cisco Systems Inc and Lucent Technologies Inc. Critical Path says it will incorporate Amplitude’s software suite into its proprietary email outsourcing systems on offer to enterprises, internet portals and internet service providers.
Fabrik becomes the first acquisition by Critical Path to be completed since its $52m IPO in February. A third acquisition, of email messaging software house dotOne Corp, was announced earlier this month but has not yet been completed. DotOne has 1,300 customer relationships, and technology for midsourcing, enabling enterprise customers to selectively outsource email and messaging technology without altering their existing infrastructures and groupware.
