CompUSA Inc’s debt has been languishing in the bargain basement, saddled with the almost the junkiest of junk bond ratings by Standard & Poor’s Corp, but the ratings agency now says it may raise CompUSA’s triple-C-plus subordinated rating and single-B corporate credit rating. About $110m of rated debt is affected. The rating agency cited the company’s improved operating results and expectations that positive performance trends will continue. The proposed offering of 1.75m common shares (mentioned above) could raise about $60m.

American Software Inc has reported first quarter net profits of $368,000, against $3.0m losses the same period last year, on turnover that rose 14.8% to $21.0m. Net earnings per share were $0.02.

ArcSys Inc has reported second quarter net profits of $912,000, against $538,000 losses last time, on turnover up 204.9% at $4.0m; mid-term net profits were $1.5m, against $1.1m losses last time, on turnover up 260.4% at $7.3m. Net earnings per share were $0.10 in the quarter, $0.17 in the half.

Ascend Communications Inc has reported second quarter net profits up 196.6% at $5.3m, on turnover up 247.1% at $28.6m; mid-term net profits rose 184.8% to $8.8m, on turnover that was up 225.2% at $48.9m. Net earnings per share were up 162.5% to $0.21 in the quarter, and 150.0% to $0.35 in the half.

Cambridge Technology Partners Inc has reported second quarter net profits up 98.3% at $3.1m, on turnover up 73.3% at $23.8m; mid-term net profits rose 91.8% to $5.6m, on turnover that was up 76.2% at $44.5m. Net earnings per share rose 81.8% to $0.20 in the quarter, 71.4% to $0.36 in the half.

Creative Computers Inc has turned in first quarter profits of $1.5m, against $300,000 losses the same period last year, on turnover that rose 298.8% to $88.1m. Net earnings per share were $0.22.

Electronic Fab Technology Corp has reported second quarter net profits that were down 44.4% at $299,738, on turnover down 3.4% at $12.3m; mid-term net profits fell 56.8% to $424,518, on turnover that rose 1.0% at $24.4m. Net earnings per share were $0.08 in the quarter, $0.11 in the half.

Encad Inc saw second quarter net profits up 40.5% at $2.2m, on turnover up 46.7% at $17.5m; mid-term net profits rose 62.7% to $4.2m, on turnover up 56.3% at $32.2m. Net per share rose 37.9% to $0.40 in the quarter, 58.3% to $0.76 in the half.

General Parametrics Corp has reported third quarter net losses of $255,000, up from $130,000 losses last time, on turnover down 32.0% at $2.1m; nine month net losses were $252,000, up from $193,000 losses last time, on turnover down 19.8% at $7.4m.

Inference Corp has reported second quarter net profits up 189.9% at $658,000, on turnover up 40.5% at $6.5m; mid-term net profits were $813,000, against $49,000 losses last time, on turnover up 41.2% at $12.1m. Net earnings per share rose 150.0% to $0.10 in the quarter, were $0.13 in the half. Figures for 1994 are pro-forma; assuming May 1995 spin-off of tools business occurred in 1994.

Microtest Inc has turned in second quarter net losses of $2.7m, against $1.3m profits last time, on turnover that was up 53.3% at $14.0m; mid-term net losses were $849,000, against $2.0m profits last time, on turnover that rose 60.9% at $26.7m.

Novell Inc has reported third quarter net profits up 32.6% at $102.0m, on turnover up 10.0% at $537.9m; nine month net profits rose 17.9% to $279.4m, on turnover up 9.0% at $1,560.7m. Net earnings per share rose 28.6% to $0.27 in the quarter, 17.2% to $0.75 in the three quarters.

Proxim Inc has reported second quarter net profits down 36.9% at $205,000, on turnover up 42.0% at $4.2m; mid-term net fell 62.6% to $223,000, on turnover up 34.9% at $7.6m. Net earnings per share were $0.03 in the quarter, and $0.03 in the half.

Racotek Inc has reported second quarter net losses of $2.9m, up from $2.8m losses the same period last time, on turnover that was up 100.7% at $1.4m; mid-term net losses were $6.1m, up from $5.1m losses l

ast time, on turnover that rose 16.3% at $2.5m.

SystemSoft Corp reported second quarter net profits up 163.8% at $868,000, on turnover up 58.7% at $5.9m; mid-term net profits rose 131.0% to $1.5m, on turnover up 54.5% at $11.1m. Net per share doubled to $0.08 in the quarter, up 62.5% to $0.13 in the half. Per share am ounts are pro-forma.

VTEL Corp has reported second quarter net profits of $1.4m, up from $104,000 profits the same period last year, on turnover that was up 38.7% at $18.3m; mid-term net profits were $1.8m, against $1.7m losses last time, on turnover that rose 41.7% at $33.5m. Net earnings per share were up to $0.13 from $0.01 in the quarter, were $0.17 in the half.

Wind River Systems Inc has turned in second quarter net profits of $1.2m, up from $260,000 profits last time, on turnover that was up 42.8% at $10.1m; mid-term net profits rose from $338,000 last time to $1.9m this time, on turnover that was up 38.1% at $18.8m. Net earnings per share rose 300% to $0.12 in the quarter, and 350% to $0.18 in the half.

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd has reported first quarter net losses the equivalent of $1,556.6m, against $91.6m profits last time, on turnover that fell 6.7% to $15,740.7m. Figures converted at $0.0103 to the Japanese yen.

ST Computer Systems and Services Ltd saw net profits for the six months to June 30 up 10.5% to the equivalent of $2.0m, on turnover up 22.7% to $96.3m. Net per share rose 10.5% to $1.99. Figures converted at $0.7016 to the Singaporean dollar.
