Creative Technology Ltd, headquartered in Singapore, wants to blast the boiler suits off Chinese personal computer users. The company, parent company of Milpitas, California-based Creative Labs Inc and developer of the Sound Blaster system, has set up a joint venture in Peking to develop and market its multimedia products there. It will hold a 70% stake in the Beijing Chuang Tong Multimedia Computer Ltd venture with two local companies, NewStone Co and China Da Heng Corp holding 20% and 10% respectively. The venture will also develop Chinese language multimedia CD-ROM software, develop multimedia CD-ROM software that provides information on Chinese philosophy, art, tourism and literature for the international market, and develop, manufacture and distribute computerised digital musical instruments based on General MIDI specifications. It will also market Creative Technology’s PJS Chinese operating system and PJ Views word processing software. It will start life with 20 employees.
