CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY FILES SUIT AGAINST CYRIX

By CBR Staff Writer

Cyrix Corp, slapped with a trademark infringement suit on Friday by Intel Corp, is facing its second lawsuit in two business days. Singapore-based Creative Technology Ltd and its US subsidiary Creative Labs Inc filed suit Monday against Cyrix and certain of its OEM customers who distribute computer systems using the Cyrix Media GX chipset. Creative accuses Cyrix of false advertising and trademark infringement. The suit contends that Cyrix falsely claims the Media GX system is compatible with Sound Blaster, a Creative product, and that diagnostic programs on GX-based systems identify Creative as the manufacturer of its audio components, which is untrue. A spokesman for Cyrix declined to make a comment on either suit but said that the action by Creative was largely unexpected.
