Creative Technology Ltd, the Singapore-based developer of the PC Sound Blaster card, has paid $22.5m for Silicon Engineering, Inc which designs and develops integrated circuits for the multimedia, storage and communications markets. Creative, which plans to deal with the acquisition as a pooling of interest, says Silicon Engineering will continue its business from its current Scotts Valley California-based headquarters. Sim Wong Hoo, Creative’s chairman and CEO says the take-over will enable Creative to move into deep sub-micron technology. Silicon Engineering, formed in 1987 by three ex-Intel Corp managers, includes Microsoft, IBM, Lucent, Apple among its clients.
