CRAZE FOR FORTUNE TELLING BY COMPUTER IN CHINA

The Chinese learn fast: according to the People’s Daily, a craze for fortune telling by computer – using imported software – is sweeping parts of the country, with budding capitalist students setting up a booth to sell forecasts of marriage and work prospects, and the playing of video games is high on the list of activities to which the machines are put… but when it comes to doing real work, the machines often lie idle, having been installed only to impress higher authorities.
