Cray Research Inc, Eagan, Minnesota has launched Hexar, a program for automating the process of converting computer-aided design data into three-dimensional computer models, or meshes. It runs on Cray’s parallel vector and massively parallel machines, and is claimed to develop a million-element mesh in less than 30 minutes – compared with perhaps six months and $150,000 by hand. Out next month, Hexar costs from $18,000.
