British Telecommunications Plc has awarded a contract estimated at over UKP2m a year to Frimley-based Craycom Ltd for its DM9200 multiplexor: it will become part of the data-networking portfolio and be used as the customer interface to the carrier’s nx64Kbps service; the most notable thing about the DM9200 is its ability to compress speech into a 4.8Kbps channel and leave it sounding like a real person rather than a dalek; Craycom says that it plans to build an interface to BT’s Concert network management package.
