CRAY SETS NEW PLANT, EYES OVERSEAS MANUFACTURE

By CBR Staff Writer

Cray Research Inc, which presently does all its manufacturing in the Chippewa Falls area of Wisconsin, plans a new automation intensive plant to manufacture the forthcoming Cray 3, parts of which aren’t invented yet – and will site it in another region of the US, mainly because the company needs to draw on talent on a worldwide basis and not everyone wants to live in Wisconsin. The plant should be ready by 1990. Beyond that, Cray expects to establish an overseas factory.
