Cray Research Inc has an order for a leased Cray Y-MP/4 from General Motors Corp, valued at $13.5m for installation in the fourth quarter at the automaker’s Warren, Michigan computer facility; Ford Motor Co has ordered a leased Y-MP8 worth about $13m for its Engineering Computer Center in Dearborn, Michigan to go in this quarter, for crash simulation, computational fluid dynamics, and other types of vehicle testing; and Mitsubishi Research Institute wants a $7m Y-MP 2/116 under Unicos Unix as the basis of a new bureau service to manufacturers, banks and brokers, for installation during November.
