As we were closing for press last night, Cray Research Inc announced an enhanced Cray 2-S version of its current flagship machine, offering up to 40% better performance than the Cray 2: there are also price-performance improvements on the original Cray 2, on-line tape support on all Cray 2 models, and price cuts of up to 20% on the company’s SSD solid state semiconductor secondary storage devices.
