CRAY RESEARCH ADDS 512M-WORD MODEL TO CRAY-2 LINE

By CBR Staff Writer

Cray Research Inc, a trifle embattled after revealing snags on the Cray Y-MP and on the Cray-3, yesterday hit back with a new large memory configuration of the Cray-2. The new Cray-2-4-512 is a four processor complex with 512M 64-bit words – that’s 4.3 Gb – of directly addressable storage, and costs $17m. The first customer for the new box is the Minnesota Supercomputer Center.
