Cray Research Inc says it has had orders from four first-time customers for its Y-MP-EL entry-level supercomputers, which sell for under $1m: Scottish Ministry of Defence site, the Defence Research Agency, Maritime Division, Admiralty Research Establishment, Dunfermline, installed a system for scientific applications in the first quarter; in the US, Altair Engineering, the Troy, Michigan automotive engineering consultancy replaced a Convex Computer Corp system; in Spain a system has gone to Madrid-based nuclear engineering company Empressa Nacional Del Uranio SA, and in Japan, Nagaoka University of Technology has one for energy and environmental research.
