Cray Research Inc has introduced the Cray C90D series, a new generation of large-memory supercomputers for extremely large scientific and engineering research problems and heavy multi-user workloads. The new systems combine the Cray C90 design with up to 2G-words of main memory using 16M-bit memory chips. The line comprises the air-cooled Cray C92AD with 512M-words running at 2 GFLOPS peak, the liquid-cooled C94D with 1G-word memory and 4 GFLOPS peak, and the C98D, 2G-words and 8 GFLOPS peak. The cheapest model starts at $3.5m; out now.
