Cray Research Inc has a $32m order for a C90 supercomputer and other equipment from Japan’s Institute of Fluid Dynamics Science: the C90 will be used to simulate complex computational fluid dynamics problems such as turbulence, combustion, heat transfer and shock wave interactions; it will replace a Cray Y-MP8 installed at end-1990; Cray’s second quarter order report due on July 26 will fall short of expectations by about $32m, representing the Japanese award, which was expected to be included in the second quarter but will now be included in third quarter figures.
