Cray Research Inc has formed a new unit, CraySoft to develop and market the company’s software for other firms’ systems, including personal computers, MacIntoshes, workstations and servers. CraySoft’s first product is Network Queuing Environment, a tool that enables workloads to be balanced across a variety of systems starting with Solaris 2.2 on Sparc at $3,000 for a 10-user server licence, with other workstations planned; the Fortran 90 Programming Environment will follow.
