Cray Research Inc says it expects strong growth in sales of supercomputers to Japanese financial institutions for real-time analysis of derivatives trading and other uses,chairman John Carlson said; despite some progress, Japanese procurement was still closed off to foreigners, he said, adding that while Japanese government procurement procedures have improved, more modifications were needed; government institutions still have little say about how their budgets are used, he said; Cray has just sold two systems to financial institutions in Japan for analysing bond and equity derivatives, but he could not name them.
