Covia Technologies Inc, the Rosemont, Illinois development arm of air reservation operator Covia Inc, in which United Airlines’ parent UAL Corp is the biggest shareholder, is partnering Mitsubishi Electric Corp and IBM Japan Ltd in the development of a passenger information system for Japan’s new Kansai International Airport, under terms of the $29m bid award: the passenger information system is intended to help make the new airport, being developed on an island three miles offshore of Osaka in Osaka Bay, one of the most advanced in the world, providing real-time flight, baggage, and directional information through voice and video interfaces, as well as integrating flight scheduling and passenger processing and providing operational information to airport and airline personnel.
