Hewlett-Packard Co has been referring to the storage it is OEMing from Hitachi Data Systems Ltd, the SureStore E Disk Array MC256, as E MC256. HP dumped EMC Corp as its high-end storage partner in favor of HDS a couple of months ago. Now a US District Judge has ruled HP is infringing EMC’s trademark and told it to stop. HP cannot use the letters MC in any of the names of its enterprise storage products. EMC says HP wouldn’t settle amicably so it went to court.
