COURT POSTPONES TRIAL OF “INTERNET DISSIDENT”

By CBR Staff Writer

A Shanghai court has postponed the trial of Lin Hai who was arrested in March for allegedly providing Dan Cankao, an on- line magazine run by US-based Chinese dissidents, with 30,000 email addresses in China. No new date was set for the closed trial, which was to have begun on Thursday. Lin’s lawyer, Zhang Xian, said his client would plead not guilty on the grounds that supplying email addresses to the overseas media did not constitute jeopardizing state security. The case is the first against an individual for political internet use.
