CounterPath, a provider of desktop and mobile voice over internet protocol (VoIP) software offerings, has launched NomadicPBX, a platform for enabling converged mobile and broadband session initiation protocol (SIP) voice, messaging and presence services.
The company said NomadicPBX is a presence-based, fixed and mobile voice, and instant messaging/short message service (IM/SMS) technology mashup with a select set of enterprise-ready features. It provides wireless carriers and mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) a way to launch enterprise fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) services.
Based on CounterPath’s Network Convergence Gateway (NCG) platform, NomadicPBX enables wireless operators and other service providers to extend their feature sets into small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Carrier customers that currently deploy CounterPath’s NCG platform and Bria client can use the NomadicPBX configuration to create services relevant to other market segments, the company said.
According to CounterPath, the new platform uses presence for status updates and real-time management of call and message delivery across various endpoint types. End users benefit from a single number and identity.
In addition, NomadicPBX enables extension dialing such as short-dialing or speed calling from any mobile handset and supports core calling features and operates completely independent of the enterprise’s IT infrastructure.
