The world may have finally got its first look at the iPhone 6 following the leak of an image from a major international phone operator.

The images were accidentally posted on the Weibo profile of Chinese operator China Telecom, before being quickly deleted – although local news arm Sina News managed to grab a snapshot before then.

Showing three versions of the devices – one silver, one black and one champagne-coloured, featuring a more curved and smoother body, the image (below) comes with the tagline "iPhone 6. Even Better".

The image was quickly deleted, but contains similarities to several existing leaks purporting to show the new device.

The leak also stated that the device would be available to buy unlocked upon its release, and include support a variety of networks, including 4G LTE.

Anticipation for Apple’s next smartphone is continuing to grow as the expected launch date of September 9 approaches. The company is expected to announce the device, alongside a possible iWatch and a new iPad, at an event in San Francisco confirmed for that day.

Shares in Apple jumped to a record high last week as rumours surrounding both the iPhone 6 and iWatch reached fever pitch.
