The fact that Wicat Systems’ joint venture with Control Data on educational systems was aborted after about 18 months has not deterred Corvus Systems Inc, San Jose, from negotiating a comparable agreement with CDC. Corvus syas it is in final stages of negotiation of an agreement to give exclusive sales and marketing rights to CDC for Corvus’ education group business. The arangement would take the form of strategic marketing alliance with CDC that would continue Corvus’ concentration on the education market segment. When finalised, says Corvus, this agreement will enable us to direct our resources at other profitable areas. The alliance will combine the impact of the Corvus name in networking products for education with the strong market position of CDC. Corvus estimates a direct financial benefit of some $2m over the next six months, including revenues from initial direct payments from CDC, technical support, and the gain from decreased overhead support. Separately, Corvus expects to show operating profit for the quarter to November 30 of $200,000 to $300,000 on sales of $8m, versus a 1.1m loss on $10m sales in the 1986 quarter.
