Corel Corp has struck deals with Creative Technology Ltd and S3 Inc to bring their technology to its Linux desktop. Ottawa, Canada-based Corel has had the temerity to aim its Corel Linux distribution squarely at the Windows desktop operating system market. Persuading S3 to develop Linux drivers for its professional graphics accelerator and Creative to develop one for its Sound Blaster audio cards adds considerably to Corel’s credibility, both in the Linux world and out of it. Once, Linux users had to beat down device manufacturers’ doors to get them to write drivers for Linux systems. These days, it’s the other way around.
