Central Command Inc, a privately-held Ohio antiviral toolkit developer, and Kaspersky Lab, an international antivirus software company, claim to have discovered the first virus to target Corel Corp’s popular Corel Draw drawing package. CS Gala spreads when infected macro scripts are run, prompting the virus to search for clean Corel Draw scripts to infect. It doesn’t appear to have any destructive qualities and is timed to strike on June 6, when it simply displays a message which can vary depending on its type. One message is a segment of poetry written by J.R.R. Tolkien. Central Command and Kaspersky warn that the same mechanism could also be used to deliver a more destructive payload.
