One of the rules of the facilities management game is that if the customer is mainly an IBM Corp site but has a couple of Data General Corp MVs running important applications, well you have to hire someone that can look after those if you don’t have them in-house. The IBM solution is however rather simpler – McDonnell Douglas Corp has some Unisys Corp 2200 mainframes in Long Beach among the IBM kit that Integrated Systems Solutions Co is taking over, and rather than bone up on OS1100, the IBM unit is taking the easy way out, and handing on a $47m facilities management subcontract on them to Unisys Corp.
