CONTROLLERS FOR AMSTRAD HARD DISK MODELS MADE IN EIRE

By CBR Staff Writer

Somewhat ironically, while Amstrad Consumer Electronics’ PC1512 Personalikes are being made by an undisclosed company in South Korea, the controllers for the hard disk models are being made much closer to home, just over the water in Cork, Eire: Western Digital Corp, Irvine, California, has disclosed that it has orders totalling $7.3m from Amstrad for WD1002A-WX1 hard disk controller boards under a condract covering the first half of 1987; international sales are now 33% of Western Digital’s business, up from 11% 12 months earlier; Olivetti is also supplied from Cork.
