Underlining that it now feels fully recovered from its near fatal sickness, Control Data Corp has made its first major acquisition, agree-ing to pay $80m cash plus future performance- related payments for the Sami/Burke market research unit of Time Inc. CDC says the purchase takes it a step nearer its goal of becoming a full service marketing information resource for advertisers and the media. It already owns the Arbitron Ratings television and radio audience measurement service.
