CONTROL DATA LANDS $80m 5.25″ SONY PACT

By CBR Staff Writer

In what it claims to be the largest disk drive contract ever received by a US manufacturer from a Japanese firm, Control Data is celebrating an $80m three-year order from Sony Corp for its Wren III 5.25 Winchesters. Sony will use the 101Mb and 182Mb half- and full-height Wren IIIs in its NEWS 32-bit general purpose office and engineering workstations. Sony picked the Wren IIIs for their high-speed performance, their compact size and potential for memory expansion.
