Control Data Corp says it has now invested $50m in two Singapore factories to make 5.25 disk drives, and hopes the move will cut production costs by 15% to 20%: production is set to start in November and 500,000 drives will be manufactured in 1988, over 50% going to the US, 20% to 30% to Europe, with the balance of the plant’s output destined for the Asia/Pacific region.
