Control Data Corp has been awarded a $14.4m contract from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand to provide a computer-based energy management system to control the generation and high-voltage transmission of electricity throughout the Kingdom of Thailand: the Artecs II system provided includes two Cyber 830 dual-processor mainframes for the National Control Center near Bangkok, four single-processor Cyber 830 mainframes for two regional control centres, 38 full-graphics displays, software, and a communications network that interconnects the centres; the system is scheduled for completion in 1991 after a 27-month phase in, and will be the second major Control Data energy management system in Asia – the company is due to deliver its first on that continent to the Taiwan Power Company this year.
