The astrologers would no doubt have an explanation for these ruptured merger agreements being announced yesterday, (see Plexus-Arete, this page), but Contel Corp, Atlanta has finally persuaded Communications Satellite Corp, Washington that it is entirely for Comsat’s own good that the two should part as friends – but Contel comes away with some of the bits that it did want. Its Contel ASC unit is paying a total of $38m for Comsat International Communications Inc, which does some $12m a year in digital services and the $10m-a-year very small aperture terminal – micro-earthstation part of Comsat Technology Products Inc.
