CONTEL LOWERS OFFER FOR EQUATORIAL SHARES

When it comes to acquisitions, Contel Corp seems to find it hard to make up its mind, and having agreed to acquire Comsat and then pulled out of the deal, it now wants to pay less for Equatorial Communications Co than it originally suggested: the Contel/ASC unit that wants to buy the Mountain View, California operator of satellite communications services has now told Equatorial that it wants to pay only $3.50 a share, and not $4 a share that had orginally been agreed.
