The Clean PC Consortium has been formed to make comparisons between graphics cards easier and is is comprised of Miro, SPEA Software AG, Cirrus Logic Corp, Compaq Computer Corp, RasterOps Corp, Hewlett-Packard Co, S3 Inc and Western Digital Corp, among others. It will work with leading manufacturers, publications and testing labs to establish standards and evaluation procedures that measure true graphics performance so that consumers will be able to look for The Clean PC logo when selecting products. Clean PC members will commit to standardised procedures in reporting their performance specifications. To verify the accuracy of the published specifications, the Consortium will put boards through a range of tests, including Torque, WinTach, WinBench, and WITS, to determine if they have been artificially optimised for benchmarking. The process of defining The Clean PC testing and benchmarking procedures and certification process will continue throughout the summer and autumn and be completed prior to Fall Comdex in Las Vegas.
