A consortium of some half dozen companies has been formed to investigate competing for a new Dutch licence to establish a mobile telephone network, Reuter reports from Amsterdam: the participants are the ABN AMRO Holding NV bank, Cable & Wireless Plc, Pacific Telesis Group Inc, and locals Heidemij Holding NV, De Nationale Investeringsbank, Radio Holland Cellular Services and Dutch electricity distributors; Het Financieele Dagblad said the group planned a total investment of about $300m and ABN AMRO would take a 25% to 49% stake in the consortium, with Dutch interests having control; the Netherlands is planning to award two licences for digital cellular networks, one of which will go to PTT Telecom Nederland NV as of right.
