CONNER SECURES ALUMINIUM SUBSTRATE SUPPLY WITH MEXICO BUY

Conner Peripherals Inc, on its way to Seagate Technology Inc, has paid $24m for Stormex SA de CV, a Mexicali, Mexico-based disk substrate manufacturer owned by Furukawa Electric Co Ltd. Conner will receive some assets of Furukawa Electric North America subsidiary Computer Memory Disk Corp as they relate to the Mexican company, and says it made the acquisition to secure a stable supply of aluminium substrates for disks.Stormex employs approximately 1,200 people at two plants in Mexicali.
