Conner Peripherals Inc has added three new 3.5 disk drives and one 2.5 model. The 3.5 drives are aimed at high-end desktop computers, workstations, servers and RAID subsystems. The Filepro Performance drives come in capacities of 2Gb and 4Gb and all are available in Fast SCSI-2, Fast-Wide SCSI-2 and Single Connector Attachment versions. The Filepro Performance 2105 is a 5,400rpm, five-platter drive with head-to-media transfer rate of up to 73.1M-bits per second, 2Gb capacity and seek time of 8.5mS to 9.0mS. The 2107 speeds rotation to 7,200rpm to increase head-to-disk transfer rate of up to 87.4M-bits per second. The 4207 is a 7,200rpm, 10-platter drive with 4Gb capacity and seek time of 9.0mS to 9.5mS. The five-platter models are 1 high, the other is 1.6 high. Unit pricing on the 2105 is $1,095; the 2107, $1,195; the 4207, $1,895; samples now, volume next quarter. The 2.5 Filepro Notebook Low Profile 350 is only 0.5 thick and stores 350Mb formatted, weighs 4.9oz and has average seek time of 12mS; it supports PIO Mode 3 of the Enhanced IDE interface for transfer rates of up to 11.2M-bytes per second. It comes standard with 32Kb cache; 64Kb optional. In idle mode, it needs 0.75W; in standby mode, only 0.15W; $375 in unit quantities from next quarter.
