US Congressman Chris Smith wants to ban unsolicited junk electronic mail with his proposed Netizens Protection Act of 1997, effectively an extension of the existing Telephone Consumer Protection Act which covers unsolicited junk faxes. Anyone who wants to be spammed could choose to do so under the act.
