CONFLICTING REPORTS: BELL ATLANTIC-NYNEX MERGER

You pays your money and you takes your choice: the Justice Department is likely to say nix to the proposed acquisition of Nynex Corp by Bell Atlantic Corp, says the Wall Street Journal. Not so, says the New York Times: Bell Atlantic executives told it that Joel Klein, the acting chief of the anti-trust division, indicated last week to company officials that the department was leaning against suing the companies on anti-trust grounds.
