Concurrent Computer Corp, which develops the transaction processing software for its 3200 series minicomputers in the UK at its base in Slough, Berkshire, has come out with version 8.1 of its Reliance Plus relational database management system, claiming a 20% improvement in response time in transaction processing over the previous release. The enhancements include better matching to the multiprocessor architecture of the 3200s, improved algorithms for database processing, faster table search and reduced input-output contention. Concurrent reckons that using the debit-credit benchmark, the new release of the database can handle up to 12 transactions per second on a single processor, and the Reliance Star system enables multiple systems to be configured, running in parallel and operating on a single database – as used in the UK government’s Employment Services SuperVACS project. The Reliance family also includes the PENnet Plus communications suite with X25, X29 and Ethernet, PENnet PC, adding support for MS-DOS micros, applications generation languages, electronic mail and office applications.
