Concert Roam general packet radio service (GPRS) was introduced at the GPRS Roaming Conference held in London this week.

A key part of Concert’s global portfolio of services for wholesale and corporate customers, Concert Roam GPRS allows mobile carriers to offer their customers a wide range of services – including access to e-mail, the internet, corporate intranets and local area network (LAN) services – while they are travelling internationally, at speeds up to five times faster than current global system for mobile (GSM) devices.

Subscribers can now access data networks directly from their GPRS handset in a foreign country, just as if they were using their home network.

The service will initially be provided through more than 80 points of presence in 30 countries globally – covering Europe, Asia/Pacific, North America and Latin America – and will gradually be extended to other locations.
