Comshare Inc, Ann Arbor, Michigan, this week releases version 3.0 of its executive information management system, New Commander, for Apple Computer Inc’s Macintosh System 7, IBM Corp’s OS/2, Microsoft Corp’s Windows 3.1 and Unix. An executive information system package designed for the client-server environment, New Commander will enable users to access data from SQL or non-SQL-bas-ed database systems irrespective of the type of computer on which they reside, as well as operating from its own proprietary database, Commander Modeller. Comshare uses Scripts, a technique it has developed to move commands from the application to the database. New Commander in-ludes status and exception reporting, ad hoc investigation, an executive reminder system, and Redi-mail – its electronic mailing system. Comshare says it supports the Unix systems from Hewlett-Packard Co, Sun Microsystems Inc, Digital Equipment Corp, IBM and ICL Plc, along with MS-DOS and IBM mainframes. Available as a desktop package or as a builder kit, it’s scheduled for release this month prices start at UKP20,000 for the desktop and the builder software combined, or UKP2,000 for the builder kit alone.
