Compuware Ltd, the Luton, Bedfordshire-based supplier of computer-aided software testing tools, has made a sale of its CICS Playback product to the accountancy firm, Touche Ross. The latter’s information systems department is developing a UKP2m management information system in an attempt to reduce the inevitable applications backlog that has plagued data processing departments almost since the dawn of computing. CICS Playback is a transaction driver that tests IBM CICS applications before they reach full production. It captures production transactions, re-executes them in test mode, and then compares the results. Playback uses record editing and replication features to to test the CICS network, but is claimed to cause no interference to production work going on at the same time since it drives CICS without using the actual physical network.
