Compuware Corp finally ships Version 7.0 of its Uniface application development 4GL at the beginning of next year (CI No 2,895). It’s the first major upgrade since Compuware swallowed the Dutch fourth generation language supplier back in December 1994 (CI No 2,569). The new version includes new object-based templates, a component structure for modeling at the business object level, an object interface through methods, support for parallel transactions and a new developer workspace for express navigation and location facilities. Browsers will be able to function as Uniface clients, though further Web Services, Java and Hypertext Markup Language support will have to wait for version 7.1. Uniface 7.0 will also include dynamic component- based partitioning, message-based synchronous and asynchronous services, DB/2, IMS and VSAM gateways, and object wrapping facilities to integrate legacy systems and applications based on other architectures with existing Uniface applications.
