Compuware’s Vantage Analyzer tool, which analyzes end-to-end performance for Java applications, now adds .NET support. The Java-focused product has been available for over a year.
Vantage resides on the web server to decipher application performance and identify where the bottlenecks are. It can dive down to inspect methods or even individual threads, providing end-to-end metrics that gauge how long the thread is processed at each step along the way, from appserver to database, webserver, and network.
With the new release, the .NET capability sits on the same tool. If you have a mix of Java and .NET web apps, can look at a single Vantage screen and see results from both Java and .NET.
The new version also adds a high level dashboard that that was conspicuously missing up until now. It provides an overall look at performance from the app, as opposed to the method, thread, or node level.
Also being released are extensions to DevPartner Studio 8.1 for Visual Studio tool, which detects and diagnoses software defects.
The new features include integration with Microsoft’s recently released Visual Studio Team System (VSTS) Foundation server. With the new link, DevPartner shares defect reports to VSTS, which in turn communicates it to the right members of the team.
It follows Compuware’s April announcement of linking its TestPartner QA suite to Team System. The result is that with DevPartner, developers can feed details of code problems to testers via team system, who would then use TestPartner to develop the test regiment and correlate reported bugs with test results.
Other enhancements extend the ability to scan code for compliance with codified .NET best practices. Previously, you could scan against best practices supplied by Compuware; in the new release, you can customize them, add, or replace them with your own.
Another bell and whistle allows individual developers to scan only the portions of the code that they own rather than the whole application.
Compuware DevPartner Studio 8.1 and Vantage Analyzer for .NET are available now.
